MY MOTHER SAVED MY LIFE - AND ALMOST CUT MY THROAT

AGE – 11

Will your mother ever cut your throat?  What if she has to? Will she know how to?  My mom said she almost did!  Maybe I should explain this chapter before people mistake my mother for a murderer (-:  We were sitting at the old house on our plot of land.  We finally had TV again. 

We were watching a Series on TV whilst eating dinner.  All of a sudden, I couldn’t breath.  I tried and tried for almost 20 seconds.  Then I started looking around at everyone and started waving my arms up and down.  After about 30 seconds after I stopped breathing my mother could obviously see something was  seriously wrong.  She rushed up to help me, tried to open my air pipe.  Nothing happened.  Then she tried the Heinrich maneuver.  Again, nothing.  She then started pushing upwards and downwards on my throat.  I swear it must have been about 80 seconds until a large piece of pineapple popped out of my air tube (-:  Due to my current cancer, I cannot remember fully.  But I assume, I must have been trying to chew the pineapple and I accidentally swallowed a large piece that ended up in my air tube.  When you get a fright from what happened on TV, you get a quick inrush of air so maybe that happened to me while I was watching TV.  So now everything was fine, my mother hugged me for a long while and then took me to bed, to lie down and relax.  I did not really understand exactly what happened since it happened so fast and I was fairly young.  I told my mother I loved her and if I died, I want her to know I loved her.   Of course she said I wasn’t going to die, but in future I must do more to get her attention, something like throw the plate on the floor or at the wall. 

She told me later that she got such a fright because if I had passed out, she would have had made a incision in my throat and pushed a thin pipe so I could breath. The thought of having to cut my throat … So technically my mom almost did cut my throat…..to save my life :-)
